How to Print Color Separations in Adobe Illustrator?

Adobe Illustrator Printing Guide

Importing a file that contains Spot Colors in Adobe Illustrator CS3

  • Launch Adobe Illustrator CS3.
  • Choose File > New, and create a new CMYK document.
  • Choose File > Place command to add a file that contains Spot Colors into an existing Illustrator document.
  • Locate the folder where the file is stored.
  • Choose a file that you have received from us after color separation.
  • In the Place dialog box, make sure that the Link box is selected.
  • Click the Place button.
  • When your image appears, choose View > Overprint Preview. This allows you to see Spot Colors.

How to print color separations in Adobe Illustrator CS3?

  • To print color separations from Adobe Illustrator CS3, choose File > Print.
  • When the Print dialog box appears, select a PostScript printer from the list of available printers.

  • In the PPD pop-up menu, select the PPD file.
  • A PPD (PostScript Printer Description) file contains information about the output device. For more information, use Illustrator help "Select a PPD file".

Creating Halftones for Silk-Screen Printing

  • To change screen frequency, screen angle, and dot shape, double-click the ink name.
  • The Edit Ink dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 4.

  • In the Frequency field, type 55 (LPI).
  • In the Angle field, type in an angle, as shown in Table 1.
    Please Note: If you use Simulated Process, change Angle settings to 22.5 degrees.
  • From the Dot Shape list, select Ellipse.
